5 tips for photographing your children

One of the things you have told me most often during this intense month of mini Christmas shooting is the difficulty you encounter in photographing your children at home. In fact, photographing children between the ages of 2 and 4 is not the easiest thing in the world, but a few little tricks of the trade could make your life easier. You will not have to create masterpieces but cute memories to keep over the years.

So I leave you 5 little tips that could be useful to immortalize your children in these magical days of holidays.
It is a small gift from me to wish you happy holidays and to thank the many families who in this December have entrusted their most precious memories to my eyes and my camera.
Many thanks to all!

1 TAKE YOUR TIME

Photography dedicated to children needs time and patience, you will hardly be able to create a good shot in a few minutes. Get comfortable in front of your models, interact with them and slowly they will begin to melt! Also remember not to be too insistent and not to make the shooting session last more than 20 minutes, from the game then it could turn into a nightmare for both them and you.

2 RETURN TO THEIR HEIGHT

Advice that may seem obvious but it is not. To photograph children in a proportionate way, it is necessary to positionthe camera or telephone at their height. Photographing them from above, if done incorrectly, would make them look like small mushrooms.

3 THE IMPORTANCE OF LIGHT

Light is the founding element of photography. This is why positioning the subject correctly in relation to the light source can make a difference in your shots. If you take pictures at home, the side light of a window will suffice, perhaps made softer by the use of curtains. Outdoors, the soft shade of a tree will be perfect.

4 BACKGROUND AND CLOTHING

A background as clean and neutral as possible will help make your shot tidy and not chaotic. Remove any disturbing element behind the child that could distract attention from the protagonist of your photographs. Even clothing with solid colors or regular geometries can be your ally.

5 PRINT YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS

Last piece of advice, perhaps the most important. Whether you try your hand at photographing your children and your families, whether you choose a professional photographer’s shooting, what I highly recommend is to always print your photographs. In this way you will not risk forgetting them in hidden folders on your computer and you will be able to pass them on over time, browsing your family albums, memory after memory.
